Drive down historic Route 66 This Fall

September 30th, 2014 by Cynthia Spence

Historic Route 66 New MexicoThere are no roads more legendary that historic Route 66.  Just the mention of Route 66 conjers of a sense of history and romance, of simpler times when there was no greater joy than seeing the open expanse of road before you on this legendary road between Chicago and Los Angeles.  Albuquerque, which is now the largest city in New Mexico, owes its rapid growth and expansion to the economic boom brought to the area along The Mother Road.  Today, visitors to Albuquerque can take a step back in time to this glorious period of history, and can see the architecture of the time periods that Route 66 represents.  If you love road trips, then we can’t think of a better place for you to visit this fall.  Stay at our historic Bed and Breakfast Inn, just off Route 66, and fall in love with enchanting New Mexico.

Immerse yourself in New Mexico History at Hacienda Vargas

March 23rd, 2014 by Cynthia Spence

New Mexico History at our New Mexico Bed and BreakfastNew Mexico’s history is fascinating, and has left a lasting imprint on the unique and diverse cultures found here. Algodones, where our bed and breakfast is located, was originally founded as a military garrison, and provided protection for the merchant wagon trains traveling between Santa Fe and Mexico.  It was a popular military supply depot, and was even occupied by General Kearney and the Army of the West in 1846.  Since the 17th century, travelers and adventurers exploring El Camino Real have stopped for lodging at Hacienda Vargas.   In the past, the location of our New Mexico bed and breakfast was used both as a stagecoach stop and a train station.  Our charming New Mexico bed and breakfast has been a part of New Mexico history for centuries, and is a wonderful place to spend some time if you’re fascinated by the Old West.  The owners/innkeepers of Hacienda Vargas bed and breakfast have made a firm committment to maintaining the historical ambiance found at this beautiful New Mexico bed and breakfast, ensuring its lasting place in the rich fabric of New Mexico history.
