Many of our guests choose to stay at the Hacienda Vargas Bed and Breakfast for the quiet simplicity found here. Once the sight of a stagecoach stop and an old train depot, Hacienda Vargas has been a travel destination for guests to the area since the 17th century, and we continue to offer our guests the historic grace and elegance you’d expect from a New Mexico Bed and Breakfast. We pride ourselves in offering our guests a retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern-day life, but also embrace the cultural excitement of nearby Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Santa Fe, once a legendary trading center in the southwest, is still a portal to Native American artwork and unique, handmade goods that can’t be found elsewhere. There are plenty of individual boutiques to shop when in Santa Fe, but an even better opportunity to find your unique treasures is to visit one of the most popular art markets in Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Indian Market. Book your room at our charming Bed and Breakfast this August, and you can couple an enchanting glimpse into New Mexico’s past, with an exciting day spent browsing the streets of Santa Fe.
Celebrate Culture at the Santa Fe Indian Market
The Santa Fe Indian Market is the largest market for Native American Art, and has become a popular event for Native art lovers from around the world. From August 18-24th, join us in Santa Fe for the 93rd annual Indian Market, which typically draws over 150,000 collectors, gallery owners, and other shoppers from all over. Each year, the market features over 1,100 Native Artists from over 100 different Native Tribes of North America. At this exciting market, you’ll find multiple generations of families selling their handmade items, providing visitors with a range of traditional and contemporary art to choose from. Included forms of Native Art are Jewelry, Pottery, Sculpture, Textiles, Paintings, Wooden Carvings (Kachinas), Bead Work, Baskets and a variety of items including drums, bows and arrows, cradle boards, and more. With thousands of handcrafted treasures to choose from, you’re sure to find something unique and special to take with you.
While the Santa Fe Indian Market is the event that gathers the biggest crowds, there is also a week-long celebration of Native arts and culture, full of other exciting events to attend throughout the week preceeding the market. Come to Santa Fe early to celebrate the festival of events, including the awards ceremony, Live Auction Gala, a Native American clothing contest, a Native Cinema Showcase, and a range of featured Native performances of indigenous music, dance, storytelling and comedy. Rooms in the area often book up quickly surrounding this event, so don’t hesitate and book your room at our Bed and Breakfast Inn today!
